Off the Page presents a staged reading of
Hurricane Mona
by Vancouver Playwright, Pippa Mackie
Featuring: Sophia Ballantyne, Pamela Girone, Dave Hurtubise, Justin Huston, & Boyd Norman.
Hurricane Mona is a fast paced, dark comedy about an upper-middle class family grappling with the climate emergency. Mona is a 29-year-old environmental activist under house arrest in her parent’s home. The play unfolds as environmental disasters and family tensions increase. Both funny and frightening, Hurricane Mona is about the world we live in and the world we want to leave to our children.
Hurricane Mona was the first recipient to receive the David King Prize for Comedy (2022). Pippa Mackie was also invited to attend the 50th annual Banff Playwrights Lab in April 2023 and presented a fully staged production of Hurricane Mona at The Cultch in Vancouver in November 2023.
