Some violence

Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2019 VIFF, is a darkly-comic, social satire that explores themes of class, materialism, and social inequity.

A struggling Korean family living a hardscrabble existence employs various schemes to insinuate themselves into the lives of a wealthy family. Director Bong has asked festival audiences not to reveal what happens next — and for good reason — the second act jumps wildly in tenor and tone leading to an unexpected and startling conclusion. Parasite begins in exhilaration and ends in devastation.

It has been described as “demented, uproarious, a class-conscious satire, a malign delight, hilarious, incredibly entertaining, heartbreaking, and insanely suspenseful.”  If you plan on watching this movie, AVOID SPOILERS AT ALL COSTS. Parasite ticks along quietly until it is booming in your ears. This movie will make you belly laugh, chill you to the bone, make you shed a tear, and stay with you long after the credits are over.
